As an assistant to the fossil preparator at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, in addition to preparing fossils (removing them from the rock matrix that surrounds them), I created both research-quality and museum-quality replicas of fossils that the Monument’s Paleontology Center had on loan. This involved molding, casting, and painting fossils (in the case of museum-quality casts replacing the originals in the galleries). Replicas were painted to match the original fossil.
